Poll: Majority Of NJ Residents Think Gov. Christie Is Aiming For The White House
MONMOUTH, NJ (CBS) – New Jersey residents are weighing in on Gov. Christie, and most think he's vying for the White House in 2016.
According to a new poll from Monmouth University and the Asbury Park Press, more than 63% of New Jerseyans believe Christie wants to run for president in 2016. In fact, 40% think he's already planning his campaign.
If Gov. Christie does choose to run in 2016, most state residents think he'd make a good fit for the job – 56% say he has the right temperament and 53% say he has the experience necessary for the job.
And speaking of weighing in, just 20% of residents say the governor is not healthy enough for the Oval Office.
Finally, 55% of respondents also feel that Christie's ability to work with President Obama will help his political future rather than hurt it.
"Reaching across the aisle may help Gov. Christie in a general election with New Jersey voters. But you have to remember that not one of the people we polled will be voting in Iowa or New Hampshire in 2016," said Patrick Murray, director of the Monmouth University Polling Institute.
