Poll Finds Americans Still Prefer Boys
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- It's hard to believe, but Americans' attitudes towards babies haven't changed in decades.
Americans would rather have boys than girls. That's the finding of the most recent Gallup Poll on the subject, according to Editor in Chief Dr. Frank Newport.
"Some people say to me, 'Oh that's an old attitude,' but its the reverse. Seniors 65 plus are actually quite evenly balanced in their preference, but younger Americans under 30 have an even stronger than average preference for boys over girls," Newport explains.
He says that overall, men want boys, while most women have no preference. This survey was first done in 1941, and Newport says it's been repeated ten times since. Every time, the boys come out on top.
