Poll: Best Thing About Potential Hillary Clinton Presidency Is That She's A Woman
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – If Hillary Clinton were to win the White House in 2016, the best thing about it wouldn't be her intelligence, experience or even her proximity to Bill. It would be that she's female.
That's the takeaway from a new Gallup poll of more than 1,000 American adults conducted earlier in March 2014.
According to the poll, 18% say the best or most positive thing about a (Mrs.) Clinton presidency would be the fact that she'd be the first woman to be elected to the position.
"Clearly Clinton's 'unique selling proposition' is that she would be the first woman president. Nearly one in five Americans mention this historic possibility as a positive, including 22% of women, 27% of 18- to 29-year-olds, and 30% of Democrats," Gallup says.
And while many mentioned Clinton's intelligence and experience as positives, the percentage paled in comparison to those who felt her being female was the most positive.
As for the most negative aspect of a potential Clinton presidency?
Six percent said she's "not qualified"; however, Gallup does note that 59% of Democrats neglected to answer the question relating to the negatives of Clinton presidency, while 72% of Republicans wouldn't specify positives, resulting in the relatively low percentages recorded.
Either way, it's clear that Americans seem ready for a woman in the White House.
