Police: Woman Bit Officer At South Philly Spinning Class
A jury is now considering the case against a 63-year-old woman charged with attacking police after she refused to give up a reserved bike in a spin cycle class at a South Philadelphia Bally's earlier this year.
The prosecution alleges defendant Carrol Shannon was in a bad mood, wouldn't give up the bike, caused a scene and police were called.
Prosecutor Alisa Shver says Shannon then told the officers they would have to pull her off. When they tried to do that, she allegedly hit one officer and bit the other.
She was hit with a nightstick once, according to the prosecutor to get her under control.
But defense attorney Joseph Green, who told the jury cooler heads could have prevailed, says Shannon was wronged. She knew she hadn't done anything wrong, and he asked the jury when as a society, will we accept putting hands on a 63-year-old woman in a spin class.
Jury deliberations resume Friday.
