Police: Man Steals Car With Child Inside While Dad Is Shopping
PHILADELPHIA (CBS)--A father is reunited with his young son after someone stole his car with his boy inside on Thursday.
It happened around 4:30 p.m. when police say a father left his 3-year-old son strapped into his car seat inside of his still-running vehicle parked at the Roosevelt Mall.
Through the window of the Kicks USA store, an employee says the father saw a man pull away with his car and son.
"He dropped the box he was about to buy and ran out of the store chasing a car that was coming out of the parking lot," said the employee.
"He was yelling at the thief saying his 3-year-old son was in the back seat," Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said.
Investigators say the suspect ignored the father's pleas and fled with the stolen vehicle for about a mile before stopping and placing the child still in his car seat on the sidewalk.
"Right on the sidewalk between the fire station and Nazareth Hospital. The child was uninjured, Small said.
Not only were the father and son reunited, but soon thereafter that father and suspect were reunited as well.
Around 7:15 p.m. police located the stolen vehicle and suspect on the 6800 block of Tooresdale Avenue.
The father was able to help identify the suspect.
