Police: Temple Student Shot During Attempted Robbery
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police are looking for the suspect who shot a Temple University student overnight during an attempted robbery.
It happened around 1 a.m. Saturday outside an off-campus residence along the 1500 block of North 17th Street in North Philadelphia.
Police say a witness told them he was standing outside with the 19-year-old victim when the suspect approached them, flashed a gun in his waistband and demanded money. The student then charged at the suspect, and that's when the gunman pulled his weapon and shot the victim in the thigh.
He was taken to Hahnemann University Hospital in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
Temple University alerted students about the incident through text messages, email and social media, warning them to stay away from the area.
Police describe the suspect as an African-American male, 35-40 years old, 5'8" to 5'9" tall with a thin build, no facial hair, wearing a red hoodie, red beanie and blue jeans.
Investigators say nothing was taken during the incident.
The shooting remains under investigation.
