Police: Suspect Targets 2 Philadelphia Fast Food Restaurants In 2 Days
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of a man accused of robbing two fast food restaurants in just two days.
According to police, on Tuesday, he robbed the Wendy's in the 5500 block of Wayne Avenue. Two days later, he broke into the McDonald's in the 2200 block of Stenton Avenue.
Police consider the suspect desperate and dangerous.
Capt. Winton Singletary with the Philadelphia Police Department said, "Two jobs, two nights apart. He's getting more and more brazen with this gun."
Armed with a gun and a brick in the latest case, the suspect broke the drive-thru window to get into this Mcdonald's on Stenton Avenue just before 3 a.m. on Thursday.
Sherik Smith, an employee, said, "He bust the window and asked somebody to get the money and that person ran and the girl ran in the freezer."
Smith wasn't working at the time, three of his coworkers were and he says they were terrified but fortunately unharmed.
Capt. Singletary explained, "He didn't get anything. We don't know why. The employees ran to the back and he ran back out."
Two nights earlier, however, police say the suspect was more successful at a Wendy's on Wayne Avenue.
"He just walks in as a customer, goes to use the bathroom, comes out of the bathroom, goes back out of the store then he comes back in at that point," Capt. Singletary said.
The surveillance video from the restaurant shows what happened next. The suspect returns to the bathroom area, this time pulls out a ski mask, covers his face, grabs his gun and heads to the register.
Police say he got away with an undisclosed amount of cash.
"He hasn't used the gun but I mean he's brandishing it both times. All you have to do - if somebody decides to fight with him or he doesn't get what he wants, and he would be using the gun," Capt. Singletary added.
That is why police are hoping someone will recognize the suspect seen in the surveillance videos and contact police.
If your tip leads to the arrest and conviction in this case, you are entitled to receive a cash reward of $2,000.
