Police: Suspect Flees On Foot After Car Chase And Crash In Bensalem

BENSALEM, Pa. (CBS) -- It was a tough getaway for a couple would-be burglars in Bensalem on Wednesday morning.
Authorities in Bensalem have a suspect in custody and are looking for a person who fled after a short police chase and a car crash.
It happened around 1:30 in the morning at State Road and Tennis Avenue when police say they saw two men stealing a big screen TV from a warehouse.
Authorities say that, by the time they caught up to the suspects, the two men had crashed their car into a ditch and the impact was so strong the front end of the car was torn off and smashed in. The television was in the backseat of the car.
The two burglary suspects made it out and took off into the woods. That sparked a chase, and authorities were able to search the woods and apprehend one of the suspects, identified as 28-year-old Alphonso Payton, of Philadelphia.
"It's old fashioned police work. No technology can help you there. It's just, we had an officer on routine patrol who noticed something wasn't right. And we got one bad guy in custody," says Fred Harran, Director of Public Safety.
The other suspect, they say, is still on the loose.
Police have searched the immediate area in Bensalem, including a nearby apartment complex.
Payton will be arraigned on a number of charges later today.
No one was injured in the incident.
