Police: Suicidal Man Roaming Western Pa. Woods Has Been Found
WEST BROWNSVILLE, Pa. (AP) — State police have found a suicidal man with a stolen rifle who's reportedly roaming in the woods near state-owned California University of Pennsylvania in southwestern Pennsylvania.
Washington County 911 dispatchers say police were negotiating with the man early Monday afternoon in hopes he'll surrender.
University spokeswoman Christine Kindl says the school issued a safety alert as a precaution. Students are on their winter break and residence halls are closed, but some faculty and staff remained at the school, a little more than a mile from the confrontation.
Nobody has been injured and dispatchers say they've been told the gunman has a drug problem and is intent on harming himself, but hasn't threatened anyone else.
Police have found the man in the West Brownsville area, about 30 miles south of Pittsburgh.
