Police: Man Stabbed More Than 20 Times In Southwest Philly

By Mike DeNardo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Detectives are investigating the brutal stabbing of a business owner in Southwest Philadelphia.

The owner of the Southwest Auto Tag Service at 63rd and Dicks Avenue is in critical condition after being stabbed nearly two dozen times Thursday just beefore 6 p.m.

Police say 62-year-old Patrick Spinosa was the victim of a violent attack that left the inside of his small business spattered with blood.

"This poor person is just here trying to make a dollar for his family," says Police lieutenant John Walker. "He's received some very serious injuries from this individual. He didn't have to do that. A 62-year-old man who was unarmed inside the business. And to stab him over 20 times is just unacceptable."

Walker says the attacker was apparently familiar with the business:

"I think he knows the layout of the land here and he knows the operation, being that there's obviously no bulletproof glass. This business has been here for many years, been in the family for 40 years. There's obviously no security to the facility."

It's not clear whether the attacker got away with any money, but he did apparently lock the door before he fled. Walker says officers had to kick it in to get to the unconscious Spinosa inside.
