Police Seek Suspect, Motive In Saturday Night Bucks County Parking Lot Murder

By Brad Segall

MORRISVILLE, Pa. (CBS) -- Authorities in Bucks County are hoping the public can help them crack the murder of a 25-year-old man gunned down in front of his girlfriend late Saturday night in the parking lot of his Morrisville apartment complex.

Police say Erick Stephens and his girlfriend were getting ready to go out shortly before midnight.  She got into the car in the parking lot but he went back to the apartment to get something.

When he returned to the car, investigators say, he was shot three times in the chest by an assailant.

Bucks County district attorney David Heckler says nothing in the victim's background would suggest that he would be targeted.

"And that's one of the things that is troublesome about this," Heckler said today.  "Certainly there seemed to be a purposeful shooting of him, but at this early stage of the investigation we cannot come up with an apparent reason."

Heckler says there were witnesses at the Pennsbury Court Apartments.  The shooter is described as a "young looking" black male wearing a gray hoodie.  He fled from the scene on foot.

Heckler says the girlfriend is cooperating with the investigation.
