Police Seek Clues In Mystery Death Of Bucks County Tent Woman
BRISTOL TOWNSHIP, Pa. (CBS) -- Authorities in Bucks County are looking into the circumstances that resulted in the death of a woman living in a makeshift shelter in the woods on Sunday morning.
An autopsy has revealed that the woman died of trauma to the head and heart disease, along with the burns to her body, but the manner of death hasn't been determined pending further investigation.
Police say a woman walking her dog Sunday morning found the woods behind Bristol Plaza -- in the 2600 block of Durham Road in Bristol Township -- on fire.
Fire officials found the victim, believed to be in her 40s, and rushed her to the hospital where she later died.
Bristol Township police lieutenant Chick McGuigan says they have information the woman had lived in the woods for several years with her daughter:
"There are no other tents even remotely close to where our victim was, and as far as we have determined up to this point there are no witnesses."
Fire officials say the blaze was deliberately set. The woman's identity is not being released because authorities have not been able to locate her family, including the daughter.
