Police Searching For Suspects After Elderly Couple Attacked, Robbed During Home Invasion In Montgomery County
WHITPAIN TOWNSHIP, Pa. (CBS) – Police are investigating a home invasion robbery and attack on an elderly couple in Whitpain Township.
According to police, on Oct. 16 around 10:48 p.m., Whitpain Township officers responded to reports of a home invasion in progress on the 600 block of Wyndrise Drive.
Two elderly residents were unpacking their car after arriving home from shopping when the husband was allegedly attacked by three males in the driveway of the home.
One of the suspects was reportedly armed with a hammer and struck the husband in the head multiple times, causing severe injuries. The injured man was brought inside and separated from his wife by the assailants after she ran to the door screaming for help. A second suspect then began to assault the wife, demanding money.
The wife gave the suspects an undisclosed amount of money and was able to activate an audible alarm, causing the attackers to flee the residence in an unknown vehicle.
The female victim told CBS3's Ileana Diaz she is scared to go home because the suspects are still out there.
The suspects are described as young black males with white t-shirts tied around their faces to hide their identities. They are approximately 5'8" – 5'11" tall with thin builds and thin faces. One assailant was wearing red sneakers.
Police say the victims, who own a business in Philadelphia, may have been followed home after closing that day. The victims made several stops before arriving home and police were able to obtain surveillance footage from the locations.
A neighbor tells Eyewitness News the whole neighborhood is upset by the situation.
At each location, the same unidentified suspect is captured on video. Police describe him as a black male who appears to be in his early 20s with an average build. He is about 5'10" and is wearing black running pants with a green line down the sides, a white shirt and red sneakers. The suspect may have been operating a silver four-door sedan similar to a Toyota Corolla, which was also captured on surveillance video.
Anyone with information on the investigation should call the Whitpain Township Police Department's Detective Division at 610-279-9033.
