PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - One man is dead after police say he was hit by a tractor trailer while walking on I-95 in Northeast Philadelphia Friday night. The search for the driver continues.
The scene was I-95 Northbound near mile marker 26. Pennsylvania State Police Corporal Gerard McShea says an unidentified man was actually walking on the highway.
"He would have come from the southbound side; would have had to go across the center median and then was crossing the northbound lanes when he was struck," and killed by a tractor-trailer that kept on going, according to McShea.
"It was a reckless act by the pedestrian as well. But it is the person involved in the accident's requirement to stop and provide their information in an accident like this."
The victim is white and in his mid 50s to early 60s. As for the tractor trailer, witnesses tell police it could have been a red Peterbilt Tractor with a silver trailer.
Anyone with information is asked to call State police (215)-560-6200.
