Police Say Suspect Told Witness He Killed Upper Darby Baby
YORK, Pa. (AP) — A search warrant affidavit says a central Pennsylvania man accused of kidnapping a 7-month-old boy told a witness he killed the crying child by shaking him, and then buried him somewhere.
The warrant issued late Wednesday says 30-year-old Ummad Rushdi told Jawwad Rushdi on Monday that the killing occurred a day earlier, after Hamza Ali woke up crying. Investigators say the baby is the son of Ummad Rushdi's girlfriend.
The document says Ummad Rushdi said he tried to revive the child but couldn't, then took him from a Philadelphia-area home and buried him.
Investigators have said the child was abducted Sunday from the home in Upper Darby. Ummad Rushdi is jailed in Delaware County on kidnapping and other charges. Court officials say he doesn't have a lawyer.
