Police Probe 'Suspicious' Playground Fire at a Bucks County Daycare
NEW BRITAIN, Pa. (CBS) - Police in New Britain Borough (Bucks County) are investigating what's being called a "suspicious" fire over the weekend that heavily damaged the playground at a daycare center.
It took First Friends Day Care about three months and $10,000 to renovate their playground with new equipment for the children. But it all went up in flames on Saturday night when firefighters were called to put out the blaze.
First Friends owner and director Dawn Stear can't believe that somebody would have intentionally set the fire.
"The frustrating part for us is that two weeks the children played on it after waiting almost three months," she said, "and then, boom, it's gone."
She says police and the fire marshal have been back at the scene looking for clues that might yield the cause of the fire. She believes that an accelerant was used to ignite the rubbery black mulch that sits under the large playground equipment.
Police are hoping that neighbors may have seen something suspicious and will come forward with information.
