Police Probe Social Media Harassment Of Pennsylvania Judge
UNIONTOWN, Pa. (AP) — State police say they're investigating unspecified instances of harassment on social media sites targeting a sitting western Pennsylvania judge and other officials.
Fayette County Judge Nancy Vernon has confirmed she's a target of the harassment, but says she can't comment on the investigation by troopers from the Uniontown barracks and the district attorney. Vernon used to be the district attorney in this county, whose seat is about 40 miles south of Pittsburgh.
District Attorney Jack Heneks says the comments on the social media sites are "alleging criminal arrests and criminal prosecutions of people which are simply not true." Heneks says investigators are trying to determine who is responsible for the rumors and false reports.
Authorities aren't specifying what social media sites published the information, or who beyond Vernon has been targeted by them.
