Police Probe Reported Sexual Assault Of Boy Inside West Philadelphia School
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Philadelphia police are investigating a mother's allegations that her young son was sexually assaulted by three classmates inside an elementary school bathroom.
The alleged sexual assault happened in late October inside a bathroom at the William Cullen Bryant Public School in West Philadelphia.
"Three other boys came in the bathroom and one put him in a choke-hold, the other one held his hands and the other one sexually assaulted him," the mother, who asked to not be identified, said.
The boy kept the alleged sexual assault a secret until he recently told his mother.
"He was so scared that he couldn't even tell me."
Her son's transfer to another school was immediately approved by the School District of Philadelphia. The School District launched its own investigation, but found no evidence of the alleged sexual assault.
However, the School District determined bullying was to blame and they suspended the three 4th grade males for five days.
"We are awaiting for Philadelphia police to conclude our investigation," School District spokesman Fernando Gallard said.
The Philadelphia Police Department is conducting an investigation of its own and officials said if it found that a sexual assault occurred, the three students will likely face counseling.
