PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Philadelphia police are investigating the death of a man whose body was found inside his ransacked apartment early Friday morning.
The victim was found inside his third-floor apartment at 8th and Christian Streets in the Bella Vista section of South Philadelphia.
According to investigators, the victim's roommate discovered the body and immediately called police.
When officers arrived, they found the 30-year-old victim face down on the floor of the apartment. Investigators say the victim suffered blunt force trauma to the head and also had facial injuries.
"There's an extremely large amount of blood on his body and on the floor of the apartment, as well as the walls of the apartment. There's also a sign of a struggle because his flat screen TV, a table and other furniture are flipped over," Chief Inspector Scott Small explained.
Small said the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
"We have at least one of two of the roommates transported to homicide to see what information we can get from that individual," Small said.
Neighbors told Eyewitness News that they have heard arguing coming from the apartment several times in the past.
An autopsy is scheduled for Friday to determine an exact cause of death. The victim's name has not been released.
So far, no arrests have been made and a motive in the deadly incident remains under investigation.
