Routine Patrols Continue At Local Movie Theatres

CHERRY HILL, NJ. (CBS) -- In the wake of the shooting at the Century movie theatre in Aurora, Colorado early Friday morning, a check with local police departments in the region showed no plans to increase security around movie theatres where the new Batman movie was playing.

It's not because there is a lack of concern, but most departments are similar to the Cherry Hill Police Department, which continually patrols and monitors activity at local movie theatres.
There were no credible threats to the AMC Lowes Movie Theater in Cherry Hill, but police were planning to continue both interior and exterior patrols during and after all hours of operation and at the premier of larger scale movies.
"We have no credible threats at the movie theatre," says Lieutenant Sean Redmond, who heads up his department's Tactical Response Team. "Obviously the officers will pay a little more attention, keener attention to anything going on in the movie theatres."
In fact, Upper Merion has been providing off duty officers for the main theatre in King of Prussia on weekends for more than a decade -- at the theatre's expense.
Redmond says as a general rule of thumb -- you should be aware of what's going on around you whenever you go out. Common sense, sure, but as the experience in Aurora shows, you can never be too careful.
