Police Officers Treated To Gourmet Chinese Food At Phillies Game
By Robin Culverwell
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - It's a longstanding tradition during the football season: feeding police officers working at the stadium. Yesterday, for the first time, cops working the Phillies game were offered gourmet Chinese takeout.
On a beautiful day for a ball game, Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey gave officers working at Citizens Bank Park the choice of chicken or shrimp.
Meals prepared by restaurateur Michael Chow, paid for by philanthropist Kal Rudman.
Commissioner Ramsey enjoyed the chance to get out from behind his desk, "these guys and ladies do so much every single day for all of us - myself included - that just being able to spend a brief period of time - pass out some lunches is very very nice."
And the officers who got lunch?
"Actually it was a surprise - but I'm truly truly honored. Kal Rudman is a great philanthropist and to have him come out and recognize or acknowledge us is a great thing."
Those working in the police radio room received lunch as well.
