TREDYFFRIN TOWNSHIP, Pa. (CBS) - A Tredyffrin Township police officer, hit by a car Friday night, is out of the hospital and police say they have the driver in custody.
Tredyffrin Police officer Lawrence Meoli just finished responding to a burglary alarm on Old Eagle School Road.
It was around 8 p.m. and in the area, police say Wayne resident Bennett Colesberry, III was driving in his Porsche.
Authorities say Officer Meoli tried to signal Colesberry to slow down. Then, according to police, Colesberry drove into the opposite lane and hit the officer.
The 26-year-veteran of the Tredyffrin police force suffered injuries to his head, arm and chest and was airlifted to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
He has since been released, and Chester County District Attorney Tom Hogan is saying it's a miracle the officer was not killed.
As for Colesberry, police say he stayed on scene. He was arrested and faces charges of Recklessly Endangering another person, drug possession and traffic offenses.
