Police Officer Recovering After Single Car Accident In Northeast Philly

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A police officer suffered minor injuries during a one-car crash in Northeast Philadelphia Wednesday morning.

The accident happened around 4:50 a.m. on Krewstown Road.

Police say the 7th District Police officer was responding to a robbery call at a convenience store when the accident occurred.

The police cruiser hit a guardrail and sustained heavy front-end damage.

The unidentified officer was taken to Aria Torresdale Hospital for a small cut to his forehead, which he sustained from the airbag deploying, and pain in both knees.

Krewstown Road, between Rising Sun and Bloomfield Avenues, was closed while crews clean-up the accident scene, but it has since reopened.

The accident remains under investigation.
