Police: Man Charged with Murder for Shooting Car Thief
A 28-year-old Hunting Park man with a license to carry a handgun will be charged with murder for allegedly shooting and killing an 18-year-old man who, according to police, was breaking into vehicles in Olney.
KYW's John McDevitt reports police say on Sunday morning three males were breaking into cars in the 300 block of East Gale Street when 28-year-old Marqus Hill of Hunting Park (photo) observed that one of the vehicles was his. Hill allegedly shot 18-year-old Irving Santana 13 times. Santana died a short time later.
Deputy police commissioner William Blackburn says Hill had a valid license to carry from Florida, after having his Pennsylvania license revoked. Blackburn says there are loopholes in the system.:
"Where an individual who has no ties with the state of Florida can apply for a gun permit on line and acquire that gun permit."
Blackburn says Hill had prior contact with police including assaulting a police officer.
