Police: Barricade In North Philadelphia Ends, Suspect On Loose
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Authorities have given the all clear at a barricade situation in North Philadelphia that stemmed from an alleged road rage shooting, but they are still searching for the suspect.
The incident started at 13th and Wallace Streets around 2 p.m. Sunday, when police say an unidentified man and a private security guard exchanged gunfire.
Police say the guard followed the suspect's car to the 800 block of Reno Street, where the suspect jumped out of his vehicle and ran inside a building. His companions fled in a silver Buick Century with Delaware plates.
"I was looking out the door and saw this crazy man running up and down the complex with a gun in his hand," said neighbor Gail Thomas.
SWAT and Homeland Security were on the scene and gave the all clear shortly after 4 p.m. when they discovered that the suspect was not inside.
"I knew it for a fact. I knew it," Thomas said. "There was nobody inside my house."
The security guard was taken into custody for further questioning.
