Police 'Certain' They've Located Car In Deadly Kensington Hit-Run
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police are "certain" they have found the car involved in a hit-and-run that killed a young boy in Kensington earlier this week.
Police say the car was dropped off at about 6 a.m. Friday at the 19th Police District by two individuals who are cooperating with the investigation.
Investigators say the car was lent to the 19-year-old suspect by relatives who live in northern Pennsylvania.
Those same relatives heard about the hit and run a few days after the incident and began to suspect their car was involved.
The relatives drove the car back to Philadelphia Friday morning and explained the situation to investigators. They are currently being interviewed by officers with the Accident Investigation Division.
"There was damage on the left side, the left headlamp, which fell off at the scene and it fit perfectly in the car this morning. So we have good physical evidence and we're certain we have the vehicle. There's no doubt that we have the right vehicle," Capt. John Wilcsynski said.
The suspect has not been identified and has not yet been arrested.
Police recently released new surveillance video showing a white Infinity Sedan speeding away from the scene of the incident.
Two-year-old David Alicea and his 19-year-old mother Josephine Rivera were both struck crossing Mascher Street Monday. The child died Thursday. Rivera has been released from the hospital.
A $20,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
