Police Kill Gunman In North Philadelphia After He Fires At Them
By Al Novack
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police Internal Affairs has taken over an investigation of a Tuesday night police shooting that resulted in a suspect's death.
Neighbors living near 20th and Berks Street in North Philadelphia helped police track down a gunman who was firing shots near their homes last night. Now police are talking to many of those residents to possibly learn more about the 30-year-old gunman.
After the neighbors called 9-1-1, police quickly arrived, and they spotted the suspect crouching low to the ground. Officers warned the man to drop the gun, but instead he fired at police. One of the officers returned gunfire and killed the suspect.
Now, Internal Affairs is conducting a routine investigation that means their lips are sealed until their findings are complete. Meanwhile, the officer who fired the deadly shot has been placed on temporary desk duty, which is routine practice while he awaits departmental findings.
