Violent Start To Holiday Weekend, Philadelphia Police Investigate 5 Separate Incidents
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- All in the span of about two hours there were three murders, an officer-involved-shooting and a shot was fired inside a Ruby Tuesday's.
While officers were actively investigating the murder of a 24-year-man at Judson and Cambria in North Philadelphia, a 48-year-old woman started chasing her boyfriend with a large steak knife down the block.
Neighbors quickly yelled for police to help.
"Officers ordered the female to drop the knife. She refused. She continues to chase her boyfriend and then finally when they said again 'drop the knife' she ran towards the officers. One officer discharged one time struck the woman in the chest," said Chief Inspector Scott Smalls.
The woman was rushed to temple in critical condition.
Meanwhile, People eating dinner at the Ruby Tuesday's off Bartram Avenue in Southwest Philadelphia were stunned when a patron shot his gun.
Police say a 38-year-old man stood up and went to pull money out of his pocket, but instead pulled the trigger to his hand gun that accidently went off.
The man wound up shooting himself in the groin.
Just before that, at 16th and Catherine streets in South Philadelphia, a 20-year-old male was shot and killed by a man who fled in a 4-door, gold sedan.
And It was just after 6 p.m. when a man inside a West Philadelphia home was found stabbed as many as six times after some kind of altercation.
"At one point it turns into a physical struggle. As the male falls to the ground, we get reports the female who resides there and her boyfriend jumped into the victim's silver Nissan Murano and fled the scene," said Lt. John Walker.
That man was pronounced dead at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

These five incidents comes on the heels of one of the most violent weekends in recent memory. Five people were killed and 27 injured in a weekend many Philadelphians would like to forget.(read the story)
All of the violence was just a series of random acts that were not connected. None of the violence occurred in areas where thousands of tourists are expected to visit this holiday weekend.
