Police Investigating Two Recent Incidents At PECO Substation In Northeast Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A federal task force is investigating two recent incidents at a PECO substation in Northeast Philadelphia.
Police and fire officials have determined a small fire at the Holmesburg substation was intentionally set Monday night.
"This fire did not impact our service to customers, but again, it was noted as being suspicious in nature," PECO's Cathy Engle-Menendez says. "Our corporate security department has been working closely with police and firefighters on an investigation to determine what actually occurred."
A suspicious package was found outside the building on Rhawn Street last week, and Engle-Menendes says a joint terrorism task force is trying to determine if it was the work of a vandal or a terrorist.
"When you look at the local energy delivery network and, specifically PECO's infrastructure, that's considered critical infrastructure. So anytime there is a case of suspicious activity, it does involve the FBI, the ATF as well as our security and police and other local officials."
There were was no service interruption and nobody was hurt. So far, there have been no arrests.
