New Jersey Search For Makeshift Homeless Graves Called Off
HAMILTON, N.J. (AP) -- Police have called off their investigation into a possible makeshift graveyard for the homeless near New Jersey's capital city after a two-day search turned up empty.
The Mercer County Prosecutor's Office says no human remains were found in an area near the railroad tracks on the Trenton-Hamilton border where homeless people were rumored to have been burying their friends.
State police, NJ Transit Police and local authorities canvassed the area with cadaver dogs Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning.
The prosecutor's office says the search was launched after an offhand comment made to investigators working on an unrelated case.
