Police Investigate Two Alleged Rapes Near 'Made In America' Concert
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia police are investigating two alleged sexual assaults in the area of the 'Made In America' festival.
Police say around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, a 24-year-old woman got into what she thought was a taxi cab at 22nd and Spring Garden Streets. It was then, the woman tells police, that a man in the back seat raped her.
Authorities say the suspect then forced the woman out of the car at 10th and Catherine Streets in South Philadelphia where she called police.
Police say the woman was also robbed of $41.
The suspects are described as two black males in their late teens or early 20's.
In an unrelated case, authorities confirmed they are investigating a second sexual assault that allegedly happened just after midnight in the 2000 block of Arch Street.
Police say a 22-year-old woman met a man, who police have identified as 26-year-old Ankara Demir, at the 'Made In America' festival and asked to use his cell phone. Demir told the woman that she could use his house phone because he lived nearby. Once inside the home, the woman tells police he sexually assaulted her.
Investigators say the woman was able to run out of the house and contact police.
Demir was arrested a short time later. He is charged with rape, sexual assault, and related crimes.
