Police Investigate Second Elderly Purse-Snatching in Pennsville
PENNSVILLE Twp., N.J., (CBS) – Police are investigating a second purse-snatching incident in Pennsville Township, Salem County.
Around 1 p.m. Friday, Pennsville Police say an elderly woman was followed into the Pennsville Acme at the 200 block of N. Broadway.
According to police, a man allegedly grabbed her purse from the front of her shopping cart.
The suspect is described as a Hispanic male and police say he fled in a Honda Civic.
According to police, the vehicle displayed an Illinois license plate which was captured passing through the Delaware Memorial Bridge Toll Plaza. Police say the vehicle was also found to be stolen from Illinois.
Police believe this is the same suspect from Tuesday's purse-snatching incident at the Wal-Mart in the 700 block of S. Broadway.
Around 12:44 p.m., police say an elderly female had her purse taken from her shopping cart in the store's parking lot while loading her vehicle.
After viewing surveillance tapes, police say the suspect came from Hook Road and entered the Wal-Mart parking lot. According to police, he circled the lot and saw the woman loading items into her trunk. Police say he then walked between vehicles and approached her at her trunk and offered to help load her things from the cart.
She declined, at which time police say he grabbed her purse from the cart's child seat.
He ran to his vehicle and fled heading southbound on Route 49 towards Salem.
