Police Investigate Possible Link In Southwest Philadelphia Robberies
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A flower shop and a dollar store normally don't share too many similarities.
But workers from two respective businesses in Southwest Philadelphia are left wondering and worrying if they now have more in common after falling victim to armed robbers.
Police say both businesses located in Southwest Philadelphia were robbed just hours apart by two men wearing masks. Both incidents occurred on Monday. (see related story)
"The one guy caught me off guard with a gun. Pointed it towards my head and demanded money from us."
One of the victims from the flower shop asked that we don't identify him.
"The other guy had my coworker on the floor, watching him and making sure he didn't move."
The robbery at the flower shop occurred Monday afternoon. Earlier that morning, less than a mile away, police say a lone female worker opening the Dollar General Store for the day was robbed and sexually assaulted.
She told police the two masked men duct taped her to a chair before running away. The flower shop case, workers were locked away in a walk-in cooler.
"He ordered us to get into the walk-in cooler and once he shut the door we were locked in there."
In an exclusive surveillance video obtained by Eyewitness News, you can see two figures running away from the dollar store's rear door. The quality isn't great but it will do for now because the suspects got away with the surveillance video from both stores.
Police say it is possible the two cases are connected but they cannot say for certain as the investigation is continuing as is the search for the suspects.
