Police Investigate Carjacking And Robbery In West Oak Lane
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Philadelphia Police are investigating an alleged carjacking and robbery in West Oak Lane.
Police surrounded a red minivan at the corner of 66th Avenue and N. Bouvier Street. They believe this is where a carjacking suspect ditched the van after allegedly assaulting the 46-year-old female driver about a mile away.
Investigators say witnesses saw the victim lying the street at N. 11th Street and Medary Avenue around 8:30 p.m. Thursday.
They say the frenzied victim claimed a child was still in the van at the time of the carjacking, which sparked an all-out search of the area.
Police later discovered there was never a child in the car and they say the hysterical victim may have been dazed and confused by the alleged carjacking and assault.
"I believe that our 46-year-old victim was so upset from being pulled out of her vehicle, being assaulted, being thrown on the street that when police arrived, she believed - she believed that the child was still in the car at the time of the carjacking," Chief Inspector Scott Small of Philadelphia Police said.
Police tell CBS 3 the 46-year-old victim is a daycare worker who already dropped the two-year-old boy off at his home in West Philadelphia a couple of hours before this alleged carjacking happened.
She was taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center for treatment.
Northwest Detectives continue to interview witnesses.
The investigation continues.
