Police Investigate After Dog Shot In Delaware County

UPPER DARBY, Pa., (CBS) -- Police are searching for the person who opened fire in a Delaware County neighborhood.
Investigators say during the shooting, a bullet went through the neck of a dog.
The story is unfolding on Clinton Road in Upper Darby.
The bullet pierced through the dog's neck and the shooter agitated Upper Darby Police.
"The thing that really bothers me is the moron that did the shooting could have killed anybody," said Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood.
In this densely populated neighborhood on the 6900 block of Clinton Street someone decided to open fire, shooting Deborah Feliciano's dog Mala.
"It went through her neck part up through here and it came out through her cheek," said Deborah Feliciano. "This block is full of kids."
Feliciano used her cell phone to document Mala's recovery at the animal hospital.
She says the dog got out of her Upper Darby home Friday after her husband accidentally left the back door unlocked.
Mala was in the back alley when a neighbor heard a gunshot at around 2:30 p.m.
Police says if someone was concerned about the dog they should've called animal control.
"Anything could have happened and you know I mean you got to be a real idiot to do something like that," said Chitwood.
Mala, Feliciano says, has been much more aggressive since being shot.
She is now recovering after surgery.
The 22-month-old Rottweiler Pit Bull mix was bleeding when a neighbor found her, then brought her back home and called police Friday afternoon.
"I want just justice. I want to know what happened," Feliciano.
Police contend it was pure luck no person was shot and killed.
It's not clear who the shooter is or what their motive may have been to open fire.
