Police ID Teens Killed In Delaware Single-Car Crash
BEAR, Del. (CBS) -- Police have identified two teens that were killed in a single-car crash in Delaware Thursday afternoon.
Scott Emig, 17, of Bear, Delaware and Amy Stevens, 16, of Newark, Delaware died in the crash in the northbound lanes of Route 1 in Bear, Delaware.
According to investigators, Emig was traveling in the middle lanes at apparent high rate of speed when he attempted to make a right hand lane change in order to avoid a slower moving vehicle in front of him.
Emig lost control, veered off the roadway and struck a guardrail. The car eventually overturned onto its roof.
Emig, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Stevens was also pronounced dead at the scene. She was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
"Our only hope is that her friends and other teenagers watching this realize that driving is deadly and that every trip could be your last," Stevens' father Bart said Friday.
