Police ID Suspect In Shooting Death Of Pregnant Woman, Unborn Child
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A suspect has been identified and an arrest warrant has been issued in connection with a shooting that killed a pregnant woman and her unborn child in Philadelphia this past weekend.
According to investigators, they are searching for 27-year-old Devon Guisherd.
Twenty-five-year-old Megan Doto, who was eight months pregnant, died after being struck in the face by a stray bullet while sitting outside a home on Adams Avenue in the city's Frankford section Sunday. Doto's baby was delivered premature by Caesarian section, but succumbed early Monday morning.
Investigators say Guisherd is their man and a warrant has been issued for his arrest.
Investigators say Doto was not the intended target and was simply an innocent bystander.
The city routinely posts a reward of $20,000 in each unsolved murder case. In this case, officials say, there are two victims so the reward is doubled.
Captain James Clark, of the police department's homicide unit, said the reward money is $40,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrator.
"At this point, we're calling it a double homicide because it is two involved," Clark said.
Clark said Doto leaves behind two children; ages six and four.
Anyone with information is urged to contact police.
