Delaware Police Name Suspect In Fondling Of 6 Patients
NEWARK, Del. (CBS) - Delaware State Police have identified a suspect who is accused of performing unauthorized "physical exams" on six female patients at Christiana Hospital.
Shyamkrishnan Ramdas, 27, is facing 12 charges in connection to the incidents that occurred between October 1, 2010 to November 15, 2010.
The whereabouts of Ramdas, a former Christiana Care Health System, Post Graduate Year One Resident Internal Medicine resident, are currently unknown.
According to investigators, Ramdas accessed the computerized hospital records of the six victims prior to the incidents.
He wore a white lab coat and entered the victims' room posing as a doctor. Investigators say Ramdas then performed a "physical exam" on the patients, where he improperly touched and fondled the victims and then exited the room. He failed to provide clinical documentation of the examinations in the victims' hospital charts.
Records indicate that Ramdas was working when the incidents occurred.
In three of the incidents, it was determined that the victims were identified as "non- teaching" patients in which Ramdas had no direct patient care responsibilities, and had no authority to conduct physical exams or access their hospital records, as a Post Graduate Year One Resident.
Delaware State Police have obtained warrants for Ramdas charging him with 6 Counts Unlawful Sexual Contact Third Degree and 6 Counts Abuse Mistreat or Neglect a Patient or Resident of Facility.
The whereabouts of Ramdas are unknown at this time, as he is no longer employed by Christiana Care Health System.
Anyone with information on Ramdas' whereabouts is urged to contact Major Crimes Unit at Troop 2 at 302-834-2630 or Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333.
