Police: Housekeeper Stole $20K In Jewelry From Elderly Woman
EAST GOSHEN TOWNSHIP, Pa. (CBS) - A Delaware County housekeeper is being charged with jewelry theft.
Melissa Ann Lash was charged with stealing approximately $20,000 worth of jewelry from an 88- year-old resident of East Goshen Township.
The victim reported the jewelry theft to police, and on September 23rd, detectives with the Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police Department installed a surveillance system in the victim's home.
Lash was the only person who had access to the home. Within minutes of her shift, investigators say she began searching dresser drawers and taking jewelry. Lash was questioned by detectives after cleaning and exiting the home.
Detectives found nine pieces of jewelry in Lash's possession.
During the investigation, detectives determined that Lash sold the stolen jewelry from the same victim five different times in the past month.
Lash was charged with six counts of theft by unlawful taking, six counts of receiving stolen property, possession of a controlled substance and driving while operating privileges are suspended or revoked.
Lash was scheduled for a court appearance on Monday.
