Car Seat, Shovel Could Lead To Remains of Missing Upper Darby Infant

UPPER DARBY, Pa. (CBS) -- Police have recovered some physical evidence that could eventually lead them to the seven-month-old child who was taken from an Upper Darby home last weekend and is feared dead.
A search warrant connected to the case indicates that police have recovered a child's car seat and a shovel in the trunk of a car belonging to the brother of Ummad Rushdi, who remains behind bars in Delaware County, charged with kidnapping and related offenses.
Rushdi is accused of taking the infant, Hamza Ali, the son of his girlfriend of three weeks (see related story). Police believe he was trying to hide the killing.
Upper Darby police superintendent Michael Chitwood says the search was expanded to the Upper Darby area today but yielded no clues. He did confirm, however, that some evidence has been recovered.
"I can't talk about what we found, but it's part of the case and it would indicate that at some point in time the baby was put into that field but then removed," Chitwood said today.
That field is in Columbia (Lancaster County), Pa., where Rushdi's brother's car was found.
Meanwhile, Chitwood says they expect to upgrade the charges against Rushdi to homicide at some point next week, whether or not they find a body.
