Police: DUI Driver Injures 2 Adults, 2 Children In Oxford Circle
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A 5-year-old girl is in critical condition after being pinned underneath a car. Her mother, brother and another woman were also injured after they were all struck by a suspected drunk driver late Saturday night in Northeast Philadelphia.
The incident happened around 11 p.m. in the 900 block of Anchor Street in the city's Oxford Circle section.
Witnesses say the driver, 28-year-old Erika Williams, was speeding and driving out of control when it struck a mother, her two children and another woman all standing on the sidewalk.
"There was so much commotion, drama, blood everywhere," said neighbor Nature Williams. "It was just like it was out of the movie scene. It was horrible."
Williams says she and 20 others lifted the car off the mother and children.
The mother's two-year-old son stopped breathing after he was hit and a neighbor gave him CPR, according to witnesses.
"I blew on him five times, but I wasn't getting a response," the neighbor said. "So that is when I blew on him a sixth time and he gave a response and started crying. I said, 'This child is breathing.'"
The boy was taken to St. Christopher's Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition with a pelvic injury. His five-year-old sister suffered a serious leg injury. She was hospitalized in critical condition.
The children's mother and a another woman each sustained minor injuries.
Witnesses say Williams got out of the car and kept saying she was sorry, but they also say she pulled out a knife after she felt threatened by upset neighbors.
Williams was arrested and charged with DUI, aggravated assault while DUI, criminal mischief, possessing an instrument of crime, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person.
