Police: Driver To Be Charged In Deadly Cheltenham Hit-Run
CHELTENHAM TOWNSHIP, Pa. (CBS) - A suspect is behind bars and is expected to be charged in the hit and run death of a woman in Cheltenham late last week.
The victim, 53-year-old Michelle Powell, was struck and killed last Thursday as she crossed Cheltenham Avenue between Mt. Airy Avenue and Easton Road.
Police have not released the identity of the suspect, but they say he was behind the wheel of the car that fatally struck Powell and fled the scene.
The suspect, a Philadelphia man, has not been officially charged with the hit and run death, but police expect to file charges in the coming days.
Powell had just left work at Walmart at the Cederbrook Shopping Center where she worked as a manager. On Friday, friends and coworkers set up a roadside memorial where she lost her life.
Powell was married and leaves behind two grown children.
