Police: Chester Police Officer Injured In Hit-Run
CHESTER, Pa. (CBS) -- Police are searching for a driver who they say struck a Chester police motorcycle officer Friday afternoon and then fled the scene.
It happened just before 3 p.m. at the intersection of 4th Street and Morton Avenue in Chester.
Authorities say the officer was on his way back to police headquarters when he was hit.
"The bike went over and went about 30 to 40 yards down from where he ended up on the highway," said Chester Police Commissioner Joseph Bail, Jr.
"Any time anyone hits somebody there's an accident they leave the scene that's very frustrating because it's going to take a lot of work for us to find out who did it, but we'll find out," said Mayor of Chester John Linder.
"Those motorcycles are full sized Harley Davidsons. You can't miss the fact of the lights and everything on that motorcycle," said Bail.
Authorities say the officer was taken to Crozer Chester Medical Center for treatment.
There is no word on the extent of his injuries.
Eyewitness News is told the officer is a 15-year veteran of the force and investigates accidents like this one.
Police are searching for a late 90's model Pontiac, possibly a Grand Prix, burgundy or red in color and with a green hood or trunk.
The investigation continues.
