Police Chase Forces Shutdown Of Philadelphia Subway

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Authorities say a police chase forced the shutdown of a subway line in downtown Philadelphia and that the suspect was arrested while running on the tracks.

Officer Tanya Little, a Philadelphia police spokeswoman, says it started shortly before 3:45 p.m. Thursday. She says officers began pursuing the man, who was arrested on the tracks after about 10 minutes. Little says a gun was also recovered.

No injuries were reported, but a SEPTA spokeswoman says the chase forced subway service to be shut down in part of downtown for at least 15 minutes.

Little says the chase involved Philadelphia police officers and supervisors with the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority, whose transit officers went on strike Wednesday.
