Police: Body Found Inside Burning Car In Southwest Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police say a body was found inside a burning car in Southwest Philadelphia.
Philadelphia Police say officials responded to a car on fire in the area of Hog Island and Fort Mifflin Road around 2:36 p.m. Wednesday.
Firefighters responding to the car fire found much more in the midst of the flames.
"As they extinguish the fire, in the front driver seat of the car is believed to be a male, the body is charred all the way down to the bone," said Philadelphia Police Lt. John Walker.
Police say there were no witnesses along this somewhat desolate stretch of roadway. The closest commercial businesses are at least a mile and a half away.
The tag is still visible on the barely recognizable Honda Accord coup.
Investigators who have ruled the death suspicious have found a key piece of evidence.
"The Fire Marshal has found a gas can in the truck of the car so he believes that's the accelerant that was used for this particular fire," said Lt. Walker.
Investigators are still working to identify the victim and establish an exact cause of death.
