Police Believe Woman Found Dead In Bridgeton Was Struck By A Vehicle

BRIDGETON, NJ (CBS) -- Police are now confident the 54-year-old woman found dead in Cumberland County was run over, and that the driver did not stop and wait around for police.
Bernadette Montgomery, a 54-year-old from Delaware, had just gotten off of a New Jersey Transit bus minutes before she died.
Her body was found Wednesday night near McCormick Place and Orange Street in Bridgeton (see previous story).
Now, the questions surrounding her death make it harder for grieving friends.
"I want to find out what happened… she is a good person," friend Lewis McCall said.
Bridgeton police are reviewing surveillance video, which shows a NJ Transit bus traveling down the same street where Montgomery was found, just minutes before her body was discovered by two women in another car at around 6:30.
Those women did not want to be identified.
"Tears came to my eyes. It touched me… I was crying," one woman said.
Police have interviewed most of the drivers seen on the surveillance video, including the bus driver.
A spokesperson for NJ Transit deferred questions about the incident to police.
An autopsy may help to determine if Montgomery had some kind of medical condition that caused her to collapse in the street before she was run over.
Police also say that it's possible that the driver of a larger vehicle may not have been able to tell that someone was hit.
An autopsy is scheduled for Friday.
No charges have been filed in connection to this case.
