Police Officer Unknowingly Interrupts A Robbery In Center City Pretzel
PHILADELPHIA (CBS)--On Tuesday, two males entered Center City Pretzel, located in the 800 block of Washington Avenue, approached the cashier and demanded all of the money from the cash register, while pointing a handgun at him.
After the cashier opened the register, the suspects tied his hands together with zip ties and ordered him to the back room.
At the same time, a police officer entered the store, unaware of the situation, and began speaking to a customer who stated that he had been waiting to be served.
Suspicious of the situation, the police officer went behind the counter and observed the two suspects and the victim in the office.
The manager of Center City Pretzel, John Bialoszewski, says the officer had called for backup after becoming suspicious of the situation.
"They came in, guns drawn, and apprehended the two guys in the office."
The males were subsequently placed in police custody.
The victim was not injured in the incident.
Police say two handguns were recovered along with a backpack containing hundreds of dollars, which was taken from the cash register.
Police identify the first suspect as Donte Camp, 40, of Philadelphia and the second suspect as Calvin Clark, 43, of Bensalem.
Camp and Clarke were both charged with Robbery, Unlawful Restraint, Violation of the Uniform Firearms Act and other related charges.
