Police Arrest Suspect In Voorhees Hit-And-Run
VOORHEES, N.J. (CBS) – Police say they have arrested a suspect in a hit-and-run in Voorhees, NJ that left two women seriously injured.
Voorhees police are calling 44-year-old Michele Toussaint of Berlin, NJ a "person of interest" in the Saturday night incident on Route 561 near North Sunset Drive.
Police say 28-year old Camille Calalang and 20-year-old Lauren Jimenez were struck by a 2006 red Ford Fusion as they were walking home. Both victims suffered serious injuries and were being treated at Cooper University Hospital.
The driver fled the scene, but Lt. Carmen Del Pelazzo said an anonymous tip call on Sunday afternoon led police to the vehicle, on Stephen Place in nearby Magnolia, NJ.
"The vehicle had front end damage on the right front passenger fender," said Del Pelazzo.
Police say Toussaint's driver's license had been suspended but would not elaborate. They also say the car Toussaint was allegedly driving is not registered to her.
Charges against Toussaint were expected to be announced Monday.
