Police: Arrest Made In West Philadelphia Hit-And-Run That Injured 7-Year-Old Girl
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) –Police say an arrest has been made in connection with a hit-and-run in West Philadelphia that left a seven-year-old girl injured.
Around 6:50 p.m. Sunday, Philadelphia Police say witnesses stated that a vehicle was traveling northbound on 42nd Street, then went into the oncoming traffic lane to pass local traffic.
As the vehicle was passing the local traffic in the oncoming lane, police say a seven-year-old girl was struck.
According to police, the vehicle fled the scene and was last seen northbound on 42nd Street then eastbound on Girard Avenue.
The child was taken to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia for a fractured skull, fractured ankle and road rash.
Police obtained video from one of the witnesses that were at the scene of the accident. Police say the video clearly depicted the striking vehicle.
As a result of their investigation, Accident Investigation issued a warrant for the driver of the vehicle, identified by police as 25-year-old Jamar Banks, of Philadelphia.
Around 10 a.m. Wednesday, police say Banks turned himself into Accident Investigation investigators.
Banks is facing the following charges: Aggravated Assault by Vehicle, Aggravated Assault, Driving with Suspended License, Simple Assault, Recklessly Endangering Another Person and related offenses.
