Police: 1 Arrested In Connection With Deptford Fire
DEPTFORD, N.J., (CBS) – Police say a New Jersey man has been arrested in connection with a fire Tuesday night at the Chestnut Lane Apartments in Deptford.
At 8:36 p.m. Tuesday, authorities say Deptford police officers, along with Deptford Fire Department personnel were dispatched to the 900 building of Chestnut Lane Apartments for the report of a building fire.
Around two dozen people were displaced, and the blaze went to two alarms before it was brought under control.
According to police, an investigation conducted by Deptford police detectives and investigators from Gloucester County Fire Marshal's Office, with assistance from Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office Crime Scene Unit, later determined that this incident was an act of arson.
Police say a male, identified as Artice A. Bryant, Jr., 25, was later taken into custody. Authorities say he was charged with one count each of Aggravated Arson, Creating a Risk of Widespread Injury or Damage and Burglary. He was transported to Salem County Correctional Facility in lieu of $100,000 full cash bail, according to police.
Police say the investigation is ongoing.
